Good morning everybody!
How has the start of 2017 been? I, for one, decided to ease into the first week and allow myself space to flow with whatever popped up, while still forming solid direction around my hopes, goals and dreams for this coming year.
This week, I am going to jump into some more focussed action and start getting back on track!
First up--my studio, because seriously, it is a DISASTER ZONE!
I forgot to write here about the winter market I attended in December--the Boreal Collective Winter Fair. It was a beautifully curated and branded show and I had such fun! My work was very well recieved by all the patrons and I met some really wonderful vendors.
The vibe was full of goodness. The art was lovely. All-in-all it was an amazing experience. If you came out and stopped to say hi, or bought art from me--THANK YOU SO MUCH! You have no idea how much your support means to me! I was a little unsure of what to expect--after all--this was my first show since going full-time. I was blown away by the response! It was incredibly heartwarming. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
However, because the market was held on December 17, and because I spent literally every day beforehand preparing my display and planning the work I would bring to the show, my own family Christmas plans were put off until the show was done. Once December 17 came and went, I had to jump right into my personal Christmas prep--I only had one week to get ready! I pulled it off, but then the two weeks afterward were spent with family and having fun with my kids and nieces and nephews. Which brings me back to now--the unfortunate state of boxes and tape and prints and STUFF EVERYWHERE in the studio. Sheesshh! Let me tell you--this chaos is not conducive to creative energy.
So, on I trod to declutter and reorganize the space so I can get back into the flow of making art and dreaming big!
Speaking of dreaming big, I have some bigs plans for this year and I would like to share some of where my heart is leading me.
This year, I am ready let my business be more visible in the world. I want to take it up a notch! I have been building this brand and business for 5 years. In that time I was also raising a teenager and a smaller child. I was working a job five days a week and helping out with some serious family situations. But everyday I would do one small thing to propel my dream of making art forward. I didn't always share the progress or the dream schemes, but now I have the space and a little more time to spread the art around more widely.
Here are a few of the places I want to go this year:
I want to get my work on practical use items. Clothing, notebooks, colouring books, CHILDREN'S BOOKS (whaaat???), rainboots, jackets, coffee mugs, fabric, wallpaper, gift wrap, more posters, wall art, etc. I want to license the work and either have company representation or agent representation.
I want to paint more! I have been really focussed on establishing my illustrative style and I primarily create by drawing and inking the characters and extra bits and then digitally colouring and composing the pieces to form a cohesive image. Now that I am more comfortable with the style that I create in, I want to translate that into paint and other hands-on type of media. I want to push my skills and creative comfort zone upward and onward. UP, is the word I chose to be my guide this year and so UPWARDS is my trajectory.
I want to be in more markets and marketplaces. I have a list of island markets that I will be looking into this week. In addition, I want my work in more stores. I have some plans in the works for that too!
All good things! ALL GOOD THINGS.
Well, that was incredibly long, but I haven't written a real post in awhile, so there you go:) I do intend to be more consistent with posting here as the weeks of 2017 tick away.
Well, I should sign off and get to it, if I plan to make those dreams of mine come true, eh? I hope you are feeling at ease as we slide into the 2nd week of 2017. What are your big and beautiful dreams for this year? Feel free to share in the comments below!
And, thanks for being here--YOU ARE AWESOME <3
